Muskegon, Michigan, USA...Kaydon Reali-Slim® bearings have a track record of problem-solving in the semiconductor, medical engineering, and robotics industries, but they've recently been chosen for a less–typical application. Two Reali-Slim thin section bearings were called into service as part of a continuously variable transmission (CVT) gear shift mechanism design for bicycles. The mechanism is being developed by students at HTL Rennweg, a technical university in Vienna, Austria. The design required bearings that could fit in a small installation space and absorb axial and radial forces at relatively low rotating speeds. A combination of radial and axial bearings couldn't be used due to the small installation width. The Reali-Slim bearings met all the design requirements. Read the new case study to find out more about the innovative design. |
